State Rep. Jim Pitts, R-Waxahachie, endorsed ex-state Sen. David Sibley in his re-run for the vacant Senate District 22 (SD-22) seat vacated by Kip Averitt. Both Averitt and Sibley are Waco moderates, though Sibley has touted his so-called Tea Party values (perhaps a majority of SD-22 voters are ignorant, but I'm not ignorant...I know for a fact Sibley was never and won't be in the Tea Party-Debra Medina-Ron Paul-RLC wing...but we'll see.) He also scored the endorsement of the Waxahachie Daily Light, Congressman Joe Barton and the reason the GOP is in a civil war, George W. Bush. Take that what you will.
I grudgingly will vote for Granbury Republican Brian Birdwell, not because the guy isn't a conservative, but due to the fact questions still surround his eligibility to run for, and hold office in SD-22. He's apparently not given his birth certificate as proof he was born in the U.S. not a resident due to the fact he voted in VIrginia as recently as 2006, according to this Waco Tribune-Herald article. Birdwell's campaign made a good point though: Sibley's claiming a homestead exemption in Travis County but still voting from Waco. How's that work? Oh well...what's for sure is that should Birdwell win, which I doubt, he will be sued from the Democratic Party, and taken off the ballot, and therefore, the Democrats will win in November over a Libertarian...Sound confusing? Absolutely. Is it exciting? Hell yes.
