According to new Republican Precinct 135 chairman Alan Maples last night (he ran for city council this year), the winners of the May 8 council election in Waxahachie spent $20,000 and $10,000. He didn't mention any names, but the three that ran and won were: Kevin Strength (top vote-getter); Mark Singleton (CNB Texas bank head honcho) and lawyer/incumbent John Wray.
My guess is that Singleton spent the most -- $20,000 -- to ascend to a non-paid, strictly volunteer job. Maples said he will be running for city council next year as well.
It's pretty obscene that one would spend $20,000 to win a city council race, but...I don't grudge someone who has the deep pockets to spend that much. The question becomes, though, that why the need to spend all that money for a position that doesn't pay anything?
one of three things is going on here...

maybe these folks expect a return on their investment?
2)it looks damn good on a resume!!!
3)a slice of the [political- financial power] pie...
Let's hope it's number 1 or at worst number 2
"Follow the money"! Always a good answer to a political question.
