Ellis County Could See Green Party Candidate

The Green Party of Texas had help from big Republican money men to get 90,000 signatures turned in, but if the Secretary of State verifies the needed signatures (43,000), Green Party candidates will fill a few ballots in Texas this fall, none in Ellis County.

But that, too, will change if and only if the Green Party polls 2 percent or 5 percent in a statewide race or the gubernatorial race. If they do, they will have automatic ballot access in 2012. If that happens, the Libertarians and Greens will be the only minor parties in Texas recognized. Both parties have $0 filing fees, whereas you must pay a substantial sum to run as a Republican or Democrat.

So expect a Green Party candidate in Ellis County in 2012. After all, the Democrats won't be fielding anybody (not a single contested Democrat in the fall in Ellis County), so Republicans' only competition will be from well, within, and the LP and possibly the Green Party.
