Midlothian Curfew Ordinance | Boyce Whatley is Now Your Daddy

Mayor Boyce Whatley is going to be the town dad if his city council adopts a curfew ordinance soon...and right now, Midlothian's Facebook page is being lit up with opponents to the measure: midlothian.tx.us/index.aspx

Who says Midlothian is a conservative town? I see arguments from the pro-curfew side.

I like how those in law enforcement accuse me of attacking them all the time but I simply respond with I'm making examples out of the CORRUPT cops, not the entire "law enforcement community."

We take a few -- just a few --- problem "children" in Midlothian, and end up legislating that ALL people under the age of 17 are bad and therefore need parenting from the State, and what's law enforcement going to do? "Oh, we're just doing our job...by singling out individuals who represent maybe 2 or 5 percent of the problems, by making it illegal for all 17-year-olds-or-below to be out past a certain time."

All I have to say is that you guys in Midlothian got exactly what you voted for...or got what you didn't vote for...

Dr. Hank Miller is perhaps the only exception on the council...but I haven't seen a vote-total or a vote-analysis of who supports what.

  2. Thanks, Matt. Yeah, I got to looking at it further, and it was actually Cindy Kelly's Facebook profile...she had just linked the City of Midlothian Web site. It looked like the Midlothian Facebook page.

Glenn Heights has a *daytime* curfew for kids. I became aware of it when my homeschooled 14yo was doing practice hikes and bike rides from our house to a friend's house in Glenn Heights. The exception for them is a note from a school official [even a PARENT doesn't count!! unless they happen to BE your school official, as is specifically mentioned for homeschooling parents]. So I made sure he traveled with a note.

The Midlothian ordinance appears to include enough exception language that [while I still don't support it on principle] i would find it easy enough to equip my teen w/ enough "defenses against prosecution" to keep him out of trouble, then start sending him out at midnight for various tasks.... ;)
