I'm tired of the local media covering up for the underlying issue in this entire Senate District 22 race. No one, not The Ellis County Press, not the Waxahachie Daily Light, has devoted one single column inch to the fact that Brian Birdwell will be eliminated from the ballot if he wins the June 22 run-off with David Sibley. Why? Because he is not legally a resident of SD-22. He is a stated resident of Virginia, and I've got the documents. State law requires a minimum residency requirement before running for state senate. Birdwell lives in Granbury; Sibley in Waco.
I'm not voting for Sibley in this race...I will, ironically, vote for the conservative, which is Birdwell. But it cannot go without mention that Birdwell will, according to the Democratic Party of Texas, the Democratic activists who hosted an event with Birdwell and others, be subject to a lawsuit that will be filed challenging Birdwell's eligibility, he will be thrown off the ballot, and the Democrat will become our new senator for SD-22. Since state Sen. Kip Averitt resigned, this special election fills out the remainder of his term. Due to this dizzying race, the Democrats will get a nominee to put on the ballot for November (wouldn't want a lone-holding Libertarian to become the senator would we? Hell, it'd be better than having what we have had, and much better than a Democrat...)
This is all contingent on Sibley losing June 22, though. The Tea Party and grassroots Republicans are backing Birdwell. Sibley is backed by George W. Bush, if that tells you anything at all. Oh, Birdwell is being backed by the Democrats, too, big time...they can't wait to knock him out of contention...
No one in the local media has devoted anything to the residency issue like I have. NO ONE.
Is this intentional? I don't know.
But if Birdwell wins, you can rest assured we will at least have an honest Democrat, instead of a Republican (Kip Averitt, David Sibley) who is nothing more than a Democrat in red logos.
Joey - You have no clue what you're talking about. This is an election to fill the unexpired portion of Averitt's current term. The Republican County Chairs of the counties in Senate District 22 get to pick whose name goes on the November ballot in Averitt's stead, regardless of what happens in this special election run-off.
ResponderEliminarOkay, that's why it's so confusing. Thanks for the clarification Fred.
ResponderEliminarAnd trust me, I know what I'm talking about regarding other issues. Sibley is no conservative, Birdwell is going to be sued off the ballot and Yancy was and still is the only true conservative.
Oh, and the Brazos River Authority scandal will make very, very, very big headlines when the corrupt local media wakes up and decides to devote some space to it.
Who is the better choice
ResponderEliminarI'm voting for Birdwell in the run-off.
ResponderEliminarIf the SD District Committee doesn't pick Yancy to be on the November ballot, I'm going to be pissed :)
Ok so let's see.... Sibley or Birdwell are the peoples choice and the Republican chairs pick Yancy would lead to a party lynching. Kind of like the "pink elephant" decision where commissioners took action that was CONTRARY to voter demands.
ResponderEliminarTechnically, this run-off only puts the winner in the last remainder of the term for Averitt, right?
ResponderEliminarThat's it.
The District Committee could hear from enough constituents to say, "hey, we want a REAL Republican in there" and pick Yancy.
Yancy's the one that will float an ObamaCare nullification resolution --- Birdwell and Sibley won't.
